Getting Your First Software Engineering Job

Most universities only teach the basics of coding, not the software engineering knowledge required to actually build the systems in industry. If you have learned basics of programming, you are on a level playing field with most new grads. It doesn't take much learning to teach yourself some basic software engineering concepts and implement an example project to stand out significantly when looking for that first job.
